Located between Beaune and Volnay, the Pommard vineyard stretches across the hillsides of the Côte de Beaune, benefiting from a unique terroir. Its vines are planted along the slopes at around 280 meters (920 ft) of altitude, in clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxide. This red and fertile soil, combined with an east/southeast exposure and a temperate continental climate, allows for ideal grape ripening and gives the wines their deep color and renowned structure. Cultivated for centuries, the commune was granted Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) status as early as 1936, cementing its place among France’s most prestigious wine regions.
Although there are no Grand Crus in Pommard, the village boasts 28 Premier Cru classified “climats” that are its pride and joy. Renowned parcels such as Les Rugiens and Les Épenots are among these exceptional terroirs and produce wines of great complexity with excellent aging potential. From generation to generation, Pommard winemakers uphold an ancient winemaking tradition while continuing to innovate to fully express the richness of their land.
